From the eternal ice of the Ortler massif to the mild, sun-drenched apple orchards on the valley floor, from fortified medieval castles to the lively, Mediterranean alleys of Meran and Bozen – South Tyrol is full of surprises and contrasts. Whether you are looking for the untouched silence of our natural highlights or want to embark on a fascinating day trip to the nearby cities via the scenic Vinschgau railway: let our diversity inspire you. Your next explorer adventure begins right outside our front door!

Stelvio National Park

Our paradise lies at the gateway to a high-alpine wonderland. Whether in the nearby Martell Valley or on the monumental Stelvio Pass – here you will experience the untouched power of the Alps. Conquer the legendary pass road with its 48 hairpin turns up to 2,757 meters and stand directly opposite the "King Ortler". Our Paradies tips: Explore the national park by visiting the various visitor centers scattered across the area and combine this with a short hike in the respective regions.

Lake Reschen & the sunken church tower

Probably South Tyrol's most famous photo motif can be reached in about 50 minutes by car: the church tower of Alt-Graun emerging from Lake Reschen is a silent contemporary witness to the flooding of the lake in 1950. Today, the lake is an absolute hotspot for kitesurfers, whose colorful kites dance across the water in summer. Our Paradies tip: Circle the lake on the well-maintained, 15-kilometer-long shore trail (also ideal for e-bikes). If you prefer something more relaxed, book a cruise on the "MS Hubertus Interregio" and have the history of the sunken village explained to you directly on the water.

Apple orchards & "Waalwege"

The Vinschgau is the apple orchard of Europe. Especially in mid-April, when the valley transforms into an endless sea of white and pink blossoms, a walk through the orchards is magical. The historic irrigation channels, known as "Waale", run almost completely flat along the mountain slopes. Our Paradies tip: Do not just walk along the well-known Latsch Waalweg, but also discover the Tscharser Schnalswaal. It leads spectacularly along the steep slopes of the Sonnenberg. Be sure to combine the tour with a stop at a rustic "Buschenschank" (wine tavern) for a glass of homemade apple juice!

Nature highlights in the Vinschgau

Every side valley hides its own treasures here. Travel into the neighboring Martell Valley, where the summer air smells of fresh alpine strawberries, and hike the spectacular Plima Gorge Trail with its four breathtaking suspension bridges.
Our Paradies tip: Visit the "white gold" in the neighboring village of Laas. On a guided marble tour, you will learn how this noble stone, which was even used in New York, is transported out of the mountain. The historic inclined railway that brings the marble down into the valley is a fascinating masterpiece of engineering.

Castles & Palaces

With over 40 fortified complexes, the Vinschgau is considered one of the valleys with the most castles in Europe. History comes alive right here in Latsch: Obermontani Castle, the Untermontani ruins, as well as Annenberg and Kastelbell castles shape our landscape. Especially fascinating: one of the oldest manuscripts of the Nibelungenlied was once found in Obermontani – a cultural heritage of global significance. Our Paradies tips: Explore the mighty Churburg in Schluderns or visit Marienberg Abbey – the highest Benedictine monastery in Europe – along with the neighboring Fürstenburg. Another highlight is Juval Castle, the private retreat of Reinhold Messner, featuring his unique Tibetan art collection.

Museums & Traditions

From agricultural history to the ice mummy: the cultural offering is vast. In the ArcheoParc in the nearby Schnals Valley, you can walk in the footsteps of "Ötzi" and experience life in the Copper Age firsthand. Those interested in alpinism can dive deep underground into the eternal ice at the "Messner Mountain Museum Ortles" in Sulden. Our Paradies tip: Plan your excursion to Schluderns to visit the "Vintschger Museum". The moving exhibition about the "Schwabenkinder" (Swabian children) – mountain peasant children who migrated to Swabia out of pure necessity in the 19th

Culinary Culture

Enjoyment has a long tradition in the Vinschgau. Here, hearty alpine home cooking meets Mediterranean lightness. Characteristic of our valley is the flavorful "Vinschger Paarl" bread with fennel and bread clover, which pairs excellently with a piece of aged alpine cheese and South Tyrolean speck. Our Paradies tip: Visiting in the summer? Then you shouldn't miss the "Marmor & Marillen" (Marble & Apricots) festival in August in the neighboring village of Laas.
Everything here revolves around the sweetest fruit of the valley. In autumn, on the other hand, we are happy to reserve a table for you for the traditional "Törggelen" – featuring roasted chestnuts, hearty meat platters, and young wine (called "Suser") directly in the rustic cellars of the local farmers.

No matter whether you are drawn high up to the mountain peaks, want to immerse yourself in the centuries-old history of South Tyrol, or simply plan a relaxed family excursion in nature – Hotel Das Paradies is the ideal starting point for all your plans.
